2001 Toyota 4Runner - Bass Jumping In The Desert
For easy installation without the need for cutting or splicing wires, PROPOWER alternators use internal regulation. Mechanical Man offers seven high-output sizes ranging from 145 amperes to a healthy 225 amperes, each custom built (not rebuilt) and backed with a 1-year warranty. For further information visit the Mechanical Man Web site at www.mechman.com or call 888-MECHMAN.More EntertainmentFor trips back and forth to places like Las Vegas or to the desert, Shawn takes care of his passengers with plenty of video monitors and a Sony PlayStation 2 mounted flush in the rear seat. The monitor for the front passenger is mounted directly above the DVD player. The Audiobahn AVM170R was disassembled; the IR was removed and mounted behind the A/C vents. New trim was made for the outside and the result is a factory finish appearance. The front leather seats are from Sparco. In the sporty headrests you'll see the home for the rear passenger monitors. The Audiobahn AVM150's were used for their compact size and amazing clarity. The monitors for show purposes are located under the hood and built into the subwoofer enclosure. The AVM170R was used up front. The front monitor can be unplugged and removed for off-roading. The rear monitor is great for viewing at all angles from the rear of the Toyota at shows. But that's not the only place where you can catch a glimpse of this SUV. If you are out in the desert sometime and hear music in the wind and don't see anyone around, chances are it's Shawn out pushing the limits of his usually immaculate 4-Runner with the volume up. At the rate he's going he's going to need another ride. We're glad to hear he has his next project lined up, a 2002 Toyota Sequoia boasting 700 hp and 10,000 watts for pure entertainment. We'll keep everyone posted!

Feed Me Current! With the increasing popularity of electronic entertainment, especially in the automotive industry, substantial systems, like the one displayed in Shawn Bennett's 4-Runner, can draw large doses of current, not only from the amplifiers, but from the video and gaming systems as well. This can be problematic since auto manufacturers build electrical systems to work with the factory equipment.
So how do you get the current you need? Easy, upgrade your alternator. Companies like the Mechanical Man that specialize in high-output alternators are a good start. The company developed a full line of hand-built, bolt-on products called PROPOWER that fit most newer vehicles. The PROPOWER alternators are hot rated, assuring that they reach their full rated power at normal operating temperature.
FormThe next item on the list was the body, which needed some basic modifications just to accept the aggressive suspension system. The increased track width called for flared fenders in the front. When Shawn received the 4" wider fiberglass front fenders he had a whole new set of hurdles to jump. He really wanted to keep the factory bumper and factory lines. So Shawn himself modified the width and angle of the factory chrome bumper to match the lines of the new much wider fenders. After the mods were done the bumper was smoothed perfectly, re-chromed and installed. The fenders proved to be the perfect size to accommodate the 35" Pro-Comp Xterrain tires wrapped around a set of 15" Centerline aluminum wheels. The whole exterior of the truck was repainted with the factory color mixed with a lot of pearl to give it a beautiful hue that makes you want to feel the finish. In addition, Shawn added 2001 Toyota 4-Runner headlamps with PIAA bulbs as well as clear corner lights to the front; then to finish off the exterior, he had Advantage Window Tint in Anaheim Hills do all the windows in a combination of smoke and blue tint for a consistent color scheme.
