Installing Capacitors - How To Article # 5
This month we'll take a break from my Civic Si build project and take a look at a subject that I am frequently asked about: capacitors and how to wire them correctly. I will demonstrate a hands-on approach to installing capacitors and trunk-mounted batteries.
To start, I want to explain what a car audio capacitor really is. A capacitor by definition is a storage device for electrons or electricity. A capacitor is very similar to a battery as they both store electrical energy. The main difference between the two is that a battery uses chemical reactions to produce the electrons, whereas a capacitor simply stores energy.
